Shanghai’s Premier Course
Opened for play in 2004, Sheshan International Golf Club did wait long to make its mark as one of the world’s top golf destinations. The 18-hole, par-72 golf course successfully hosted its first major international event, the HSBC Champions, in 2005. Since then Sheshan has attracted many top players, including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, and Lee Westwood, to participate in this tournament.
The HSBC Champions, which has grown in status to become a World Golf Championship event since 2009, has always been synonymous with Sheshan International Golf Club. The club has experienced the positive impact of being the host venue of the major international tournament.
Sheshan’s course was designed by internationally renowned golf course designers Nelson & Haworth and has proven to be a challenge even for the best players in the world. The 7,185-yard course is one Shanghai’s premier layouts and always leads to a memorable finish.
Sheshan International Golf Club features well-placed bunkers throughout the golf course along with beautiful water features, undulating greens and tree-lined fairways that combine with the gently rolling hills. The course is also home to 1,000-year-old Gingko trees which provide a brilliant yellow show in the fall alongside the calm waterways and a spectacular natural quarry.
Despite being located in the city of Shanghai, the serene surroundings of the course afford players the feeling of seclusion and true closeness to nature. No wonder the course has become a must-visit golf destination. Golf tourists must be sure to make plans to play this spectacular course when they’re visiting Shanghai.
