A Cosmopolitan City In The South Pacific
There are two faces that represent Suva. One is a thriving metropolis, the other a beautiful relic of the past.
Fiji's capital Suva is largest and most cosmopolitan city in the country and also all of the South Pacific islands. Located on the Southeast coast of the island of Viti Levu, Fiji’s largest island, Suva is the perfect place to experience a mix of culture, sports, and outdoor recreation. It's a lush green city perched on a hilly peninsula.
Along with its bustling and highly multicultural population, Suva is also architecturally diverse. Shopping malls, a plethora of restaurants, and farmers markets have sprung up in modern buildings around the old majestic buildings from the British colonial era. Perfectly manicured parks offer a place to stroll and respite from the hubbub of the city. Wandering the busy streets of Suva, you’ll meet Fijians of native, Indian, Chinese, European, and Polynesian descent. It’s this mix of ancestries that makes up the city’s unique and fascinating heart.
The commercial hub of the city resides near Nubukalou Creek, while in Victoria Parade you will find most of the tourist sites, interesting restaurants, and lively nightspots. In addition to numerous treks and walking tours in and around the city, visitors can also enjoy sports such as golf and swimming. Once satisfied with enough exploration of the city, visitors can venture to the myriad of attractions nearby including Pacific Harbour which is the city’s closest beach. With white sands and ample space to rest and relax it’s the most popular beach in the area.
Pacific Harbour is a 45-minute drive from Suva (towards Nadi). The beach and its vicinity are packed with various things to do including scuba diving, snorkeling, and cultural tours. There are shops, cafes, a championship golf course, a man-made beach called the Tiki pools and a large cultural center. The area offers a range of accommodation including private villas, hotels, backpacker lodgings, and apartments.
KULA ECO PARK
This ecological reserve in Fiji is a popular tourist attraction. Originally established as a bird park in the 1980s, Kula Eco Park has slowly been developed and now offers a range of attractions. In the main park area, visitors can meet numerous native and non-native bird species and the fruit bats.
Approximately two and a half hours away from Suva, Natadola Beach is famed for being the mainland's best beach with the most beautiful white-sand. Natadola's lush beauty and variety of recreational activities, from snorkeling to horseback riding, draws tourists from around the world. The Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course is home to the Fiji International.
Viti Levu has many beautiful islands. One of the most popular island chains in Fiji is the Mamanuca Islands. Consisting of 20 islands, Mamanuca is archipelago lying to the west of Nadi and to the south of the Yasawa Islands. The islands here are known for their Hollywood screen appearances, most notably in the film Cast Away and on the TV show Survivor.
