South Korea's Pebble Beach
Namhae Island is one of the most beautiful areas in South Korea with rolling green mountains, a rugged coastline, and spectacular views. The landscape of the island is completed by the rolling, green carpets of South Cape Owners Club.
Designed by Kyle Phillips, South Cape Owners Club is revered as one of Asia’s most beautiful courses, an accolade that is aided by the dazzling water views from virtually every hole. The journey of a round here will pass natural coves and bays, with the holes set at the shoreline in some places and up along a series of elevated grounds. Golfers may be reminded of the atmosphere of Pebble Beach in California, which also skirts the coastline affording it wide open views of Carmel Bay.
South Cape Owners Club offers plenty of elevation changes that challenge players to keep the ball on the undulating, perfectly manicured fairways. The downhill par-five 11th continues on towards a stunning pair of waterside par-threes, the 136-meter 14th and the 204-meter 16th, offering one of the most memorable golfing adventures. These oceanside par-threes seem to have been inspired by Pebble Beach’s famous 7th hole and Cyprus Point’s 16th.
“As you walk the course, the ever-present beauty of South Cape is all around you,” said the designer Phillips. “It is a golf experience that transcends shot-making.”
South Cape golf course is the centerpiece of a luxury golf resort community created by South Korean clothing magnate Jae Bong Chung, the owner and visionary behind the project. South Cape includes a sophisticated boutique hotel with 40 suites and a spa, as well as 130 privately owned luxury sea-view villas. The clubhouse itself, which is often acknowledged for its outstanding and chic architectural design, is built into the side of a mountain.
